Our introduction to Costa Rica begins today with a full day excursion. Our first stop is at the Doka Estate, a coffee plantation in Alajuela. Here we take an interesting tour where we learn the history of coffee and its importance  to Costa Rica’s economy. On our tour, our guide shows us the process of growing, harvesting and roasting coffee beans. We see the transformation from coffee plants as seedlings to the roasted bean. Afterwards, there is time to sample the different types of coffee made at Doka. Next, we travel to the nearby Poás volcano to see the world’s second largest crater. Finally we travel to the La Paz Waterfall Gardens. Here we have lunch followed by a visit to the butterfly garden, aviary and a hike through the grounds to see the amazing waterfalls.  After a busy day, we return to San José for time to relax.  B/L/D
