Monday, June 15 •
Depart
Today we depart on our regularly scheduled flight to
Frankfurt, Germany. During the trans-Atlantic portion of our flight, we
enjoy complimentary beverage and meal service, as well as in-flight

Tuesday, June 16 • Rüdesheim
Upon our arrival in Frankfurt, we collect our luggage
and meet our bus and driver. Our first stop in Germany is
Rüdesheim, a charming village nestled along the banks of the
mighty Rhine River. In the afternoon, we take the Seilbahn to the
Niederwalddenkmal, built to commemorate the reunification of Germany in
the 19th century, for sweeping views of the river, villages and
vineyards below. We settle into our hostel in time for dinner and our
first overnight in Germany. In-flight B/D
Wednesday, June 17 • Black Forest
Driving southward today, we pass by Heidelberg and
Mannheim before entering Germany’s famous Black Forest region. We have
the afternoon to explore the area around Triberg. Some options include
hiking one of the countless trails, visiting a cuckoo clock maker or
perhaps simply enjoying the clean air that draws visitors from all
around the world. B/D
Thursday,
June 18 • Wilderswil
Our journey today takes us past the mighty Rhine Falls
and into
Switzerland. After viewing the impressive falls, we continue on to
Lucerne, on the Vierwaldstättersee. Here we visit the
Löwendenkmal,
dedicated to the Swiss mercenaries who gave their lives defending the
kings of France, and have time to explore the city and lakeshore. In
the late afternoon, we continue on to our hotel located in Wilderswil,
a suburb of Interlaken. B/D

Friday, June 19 •
Wilderswil
Today we enjoy a full day excursion in the heart of the
Bernese Alps.
We depart Wilderswil on a train to Lauterbrunnen, where we take
cogwheel train up the side of the mountain to the village of Wengen.
After a short walk through this village without cars, we board a
gondola up to the Männlichen. A leisurely walk takes us to the
Kleine
Scheidegg, nestled just below the peaks of the Eiger, Mönch and
Jungfrau mountains. After time for lunch and relaxation in the fresh
Alpine air, we descend back down the mountain on trains to Grindelwald
and Wilderswil in the late afternoon. B/D
Saturday, June 20 • Reutte
Departing Switzerland today, we stop in the
principality of
Liechtenstein and visit its capital city, Vaduz. We then continue on
towards Germany’s most famous castle, King Ludwig’s impressive
Neuschwanstein. Our tour takes us through the castle’s furnished rooms
(many were never completely furnished) and gives us a glimpse into
Ludwig’s world. At the end of our tour, we have time to hike to the
Marienbrücke before returning to our bus and transferring just
across
the Austrian border to our hostel. B/D
Sunday,
June 21 • Munich
This morning we take a scenic drive along the Plansee
and cross back
into Germany, where we visit King Ludwig’s favorite residence,
Linderhof. After our tour of this redecorated hunting lodge, we have
time to explore the gardens and the Venus Grotto before continuing on
to Oberammergau. Here we have time for lunch and to visit some of the
woodcarvers’ shops before we continue on towards Munich. En route, we
stop in Dachau and visit the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial. Our
personal audio guides help explain the various exhibits and
reconstructed buildings. We transfer to Munich in time for dinner at
our hostel. B/D

Monday,
June 22 • Munich
We start this morning with a bicycle tour of Munich, which takes us
along the local bike paths and parks. Our tour includes plenty of stops
to hear about and see Munich’s rich history, including a stop for
refreshments in the Englischer Garten. After our tour, we have free
time to explore the mile-long pedestrian zone, or perhaps visit the
Olympic Grounds, home of the 1972 Summer Games. B/D
Tuesday, June 23 • Rothenburg
Our final day in Germany takes us first to
Nürnberg, where a local
guide joins us for a panoramic tour of this historical city. In the
mid-afternoon, we continue on to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany’s
most well preserved medieval town. In addition to visiting the
Kriminalmuseum, we have time to explore the city’s cobblestone streets
and fully intact city defensive wall before retiring to our youth
hostel. B/D
Wednesday, June 24 • Return
Sadly, we pack our bags this morning and transfer to
the Frankfurt/Main
International Airport for our return flight to the United States. We
bring with us memories of breathtaking scenery and a wealth of new
