Thursday, June 11 • Bayeux
Upon our morning arrival at the Paris Charles de
Gaulle airport, we collect our luggage and meet our bus driver. On our
way to Normandy, we stop in Giverny for a visit to Monet’s
gardens. Considered to be one of the foremost Impressionists,
Monet’s gardens at Giverny have continued to inspire generations of
(aspiring) artists long after his death. After time to stroll through
these lush gardens, we continue on our way to Bayeux, Normandy, our
home for the next three nights. B/D
Friday, June 12 • Bayeux
Today we enjoy a full day excursion to Mont St.
Michel, located just off the French coast on an island. Once only
accessible at low tide, the island is now connected to the mainland by
a causeway. Upon our mid-morning arrival, we have time to explore the
island and its impressive monastery. We conclude our day with a visit
to the Bayeux Tapestry Museum, home of the Bayeux Tapestry, a richly
decorated 230 feet, telling the story of William the Conqueror and the
conquest of England in 1066. B/D
Saturday, June 13 • Bayeux
Today we spend a full day exploring the area around
Bayeux and Caen, perhaps most famous as the site of the famous D-Day
invasion during World War II. Our day begins with a visit to the Caen
Peace Memorial. We then continue on to Arromanches where we have time
for lunch before continuing on to other sites important to the Normandy
Invasion: American Cemetery, Pointe du Hoc, St Marie des Eglises and
the German cemetery. We return to our hostel for our final night in
Normandy. B/D

Paris
We depart Bayeux this morning and drive to
Versailles, where we have a
self-guided tour of Château de Versailles, made famous by King
Louis
XIV, the “Sun King.” Our tour takes us through the King’s apartments
and the famous Hall of Mirrors. Outside, there is time to explore
the
extensive gardens surrounding the château. We transfer to our
hotel in
Paris after ample time to explore the palace and gardens. B/D
Monday, June 15 • Paris
Our transportation for our five days in Paris is the
famous Metro,
which whisks us to the Eiffel Tower this morning. Here, we first take
an elevator ride to the top for a panoramic view of the city. After
time for a couple of photos, we descend to the bottom of the tower for
a unique tour of Paris. In the company of a guide from Fat Tire Bike
Tours, we tour Paris on a bicycle. We cruise through the city on bike
paths, seeing such famous sights as Notre Dame, Les Invalides and the
Dome Church, the Champs-Elysées, Place de la Concorde and
stopping for
lunch in the Tuileries Gardens. The remainder of the afternoon is
free. B/D
Tuesday, June 16 • Paris
A visit to Paris would not be complete without
viewing the collection
at the Musée d’Orsay. Spanning a time period of only 60 years,
the
Musée d’Orsay houses works by a vast collection of French
artists. The
francophone tone of the museum is largely due to the fact that some of
the world’s foremost painters of the time were from France: Delacroix,
Monet, Manet, and Rodin, just to name a few. After a break for lunch,
we tour the Opera Garnier, Paris’ stunning opera house built in the
19th century by Charles Garnier. During our tour, we are sure to see
the magnificent staircase, the famous ceiling mural by Marc Chagall,
and the opulent auditorium, complete with its massive chandelier. B/D

Wednesday, June 17 • Paris
We take a break from art museums today and visit
Sainte-Chapelle and
the Conciergerie this morning. Sainte-Chapelle was built to house
important Christian relics - Jesus’ crown of thorns, a piece of the
cross and other holy objects - it is most famous for it’s graceful
Gothic architecture and stunning stained glass. The Conciergerie was
“home” to Marie Antionette – she was imprisoned here during the French
Revolution. Afterwards, we have time to look around Notre Dame and
explore the Ile-St-Louis, the island located directly behind Notre
Dame. Once used as pasture for dairy cows, the island developed in the
18th century and was home to many bourgeoisie families until another
district became more fashionable. Now it is filled with charming
shops, restaurants and quiet streets. Keep an eye out for Paris’ best
ice cream shop, Berthillon – you’re sure to see the long line of people
waiting to purchase a refreshing treat.

Thursday, June 18 • Paris
After breakfast, we take the Metro to the
Musée du Louvre, one of the
world’s most famous art museums. While it is simply not possible to
visit the entire museum in one day, the most famous exhibit items are
sure to be on our list: Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, and the Venus de
Milo are only two of the Louvre’s thousands of treasures. In the
afternoon, we travel to the artists’ quarter Montmartre and Sacre
Coeur. After time to explore the area, we return to our hotel for
dinner. After dinner, we take a cruise on one of Paris’ famous
Bateaux
Parisiens. As we glide along the Seine, the monuments of Paris - Notre
Dame, the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, and more - shine like jewels along
the riverbank. B/D
Friday, June 19 • Return
“All good things must come to an end.” There may be no
better way to
describe the feeling of leaving Paris after having gotten to know its
famous sights over the past 5 days. We transfer via motor coach to the
Paris Charles de Gaulle airport for our return flight to the United
States. B/In-flight L
Family
stays are available at the end of the tour for an additional
cost, determined by the length and activities of the family stay.
