This morning, we tour Madrid by bicycle. On our tour, we see sights such as Spain’s Plaza Mayor in the heart of the city, the Plaza de Cibeles where the very distinctive Banco de España and Madrid’s main post office are located. We also see the Plaza de España with its statues of Miguel de Cervantes and Don Quixote and Sancho Panza.  We take a break for lunch on our own and a little free time.  Finally, we tour the spectacular Palacio Real.  This lavish palace took 26 years to build and has over 1200 rooms. We enjoy the remainder of the afternoon for some shopping and sightseeing on our own.  B/D

Our first stop today is Madrid’s famous Museo del Prado.  We have plenty of time to check out artwork here by Velazquéz, Goya, El Greco and many other well-known artists.  Afterwards, we take a stroll in nearby Retiro Park where we might want to get a bite to eat or even have a picnic.   This afternoon we see how many of the beautiful tapestry rugs and decorations in the Palacio Real were made as we take a short tour of Madrid’s Royal Tapestry factory.   B/D

We take a full-day excursion via public bus to Segovia today. Upon our arrival we take tour (audio guides included) of the Alcázar.  Built atop a rocky hill, this fortress was rebuilt in 1862 after a fire. We enjoy the rest of the afternoon to explore Segovia on our own, before returning to Madrid in time for dinner.  B/D

Another excursion is in store for us today as we board a high-speed train that takes us to Toledo in just over half-an hour. Upon our arrival we get acquainted with Toledo as take the Zocatren that winds around the town and also gives us that beautiful view of Toledo and the Tagus river.  After getting our bearings, we meet a local guide who gives us more insight into this beautiful city. Our sightseeing includes tours of La Catedral with its mixture of different styles of architecture including French Gothic, Renaissance and Mudéjar, La Sinagoga del Tránsito and La Iglesia de Santo Tomé, which houses The Burial of the Count of Orgaz, one of El Greco’s masterpieces.  After our tour, we have plenty of time to have lunch and further explore Toledo on our own before boarding the train that takes us back to Madrid.  B/D
