Day 1 • Depart
We depart the United States today on our overnight
flight to Berlin, Germany. In-flight D
Day 2 • Berlin
Upon our arrival in Berlin, we collect our luggage
and transfer to our hostel, where we secure our luggage and have a
chance to freshen up. We take the U-Bahn to the Bahnhof Zoo, in
the center of former West Berlin and get acquainted with the city. In
the afternoon, we visit the Kaiser Wilhlem Gedächtniskirche,
bombed during World War II and never restored as a reminder of the
war. In-flight B/D
Day 3 • Berlin
This morning we travel to the Alexanderplatz, where
we meet a guide and select our bicycles for a leisurely tour of Berlin
along bike paths and city parks. Our guide pauses often to show us
sights such as the Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, the
Gendarmenmarkt, Potsdammer Platz, the Siegesäule, the Reichstag
and much more. After free time for lunch, we explore the area around
the Alexanderplatz in depth, including the Berliner Dom, the Berliner
Rathaus and the Nikolaiviertel, one of Berlin’s oldest districts. B/D
Day 4 • Berlin
Today begins with a visit to the Checkpoint Charlie
Museum, where we learn about the Berlin Wall and the many ways people
tried to cross from East to West. In the afternoon, we visit the Soviet
Memorial in Treptow, a colossal monument to the Soviet soldiers who
lost their lives in World War II. We then continue on to Volkspark
Friederichshain, where we can still see the flak towers from World War
II. B/D

Day 5 •
Berlin
We begin the day with a visit to the DDR Museum,
which shows us what
life was like in the German Democratic Republic. The interactive
exhibits give us a real taste of life in East Germany during the Cold
War. Visitors can “start” a Trabi, check out what’s on TV and feel what
it was like to wonder if your neighbor was reporting you to the Stasi.
In the afternoon, we explore the Sony Center and Potsdammer Platz, as
well as the Holocaust Memorial and visit a still-standing section of
the Berlin Wall. B/D
Day 6 • Berlin
This morning we take the S-Bahn to the nearby suburb
of Potsdam. Once
home to German emperors, Sanssouci Palace is now open to the general
public. The gardens surrounding the palace are as elegant and beautiful
as the palace itself. After our tour, we explore the town of Postdam
before returning to Berlin in the late afternoon. After dinner, we
visit the Reichstag, seat of Germany’s parliament. The glass dome
affords us spectacular views of the surrounding city. B/D
Day 7 • Berlin
Our day begins with a visit to the Gedenkstätte
Deutscher Widerstand, a
center dedicated to telling the story of the German Resistance movement
during the Nazi regime. We have plenty of time to view the pictures,
essays and interviews that illustrate what it was like to oppose the
Nazi government, and why these citizens risked everything they had to
do so. The afternoon is free for a last minute museum visit or
perhaps
some shopping. B/D
Day 8 • Return
Sadly, our time in Berlin ends as we transfer to the
airport on our
chartered coach. We bring with us memories of an exciting and historic
city, as well as a deeper appreciation for what it means to be a
“Berliner.” B/In-flight L
