Friday, June 12 •
Depart
We depart on our scheduled overnight flight to
Barcelona, Spain. Our in-flight services include complimentary
beverages, meal service and a movie. In-flight D
Saturday, June 13 • Barcelona
Upon our arrival in Barcelona, we meet our coach
and driver and check in at our hotel. After some time to freshen
up, we enjoy an informal walking tour of the area. We also visit
the colorful Las Ramblas, Barcelona’s famous boulevard lined with shops
and restaurants. In-flight B/D
Sunday, June 14 • Overnight Train
This morning our local guide shows us the areas of
Barcelona where we find many examples of Modernism, a style of
architecture born in Barcelona. The highlights today include some of
the works by Antoni Gaudí. Gaudí’s most famous work
is the Sagrada Familia Iglesia. We also visit Gaudí’s Parc
Güell, a park that opened in 1922 that was originally intended to
be a garden city, commissioned by Count Eusebi Güell.
Another Gaudí building on our tour is La Casa Milà, an
eight-story apartment building he designed for the Milà family.
We also visit the Barri Gótic, the oldest part of the city,
including its Gothic style cathedral. We enjoy some free time in
Barcelona before boarding our overnight train that takes us to Granada
while we comfortably sleep in our quad-car sleeper compartments. B
Monday, June 15 • Torremolinos
We arrive in Granada where we have a chance to
freshen up a bit and have some breakfast before meeting our coach and
driver. We then take a short drive and meet our guide for a tour
of the mighty Alhambra, a Moorish palace built when the Nasrid dynasty
ruled Granada and designed to be a paradise on earth. We also visit the
nearby Generalife Gardens used by the Nasrid kings as a retreat from
the palace. After our tour we have some free time in the city,
including a visit to the Capilla Real where we have a chance to see the
crypt where the Catholic Monarchs, Isabel and Fernando, are buried.
Finally, we continue on to Torremolinos where we enjoy some time on the
beach. D
Tuesday, June 16 • Torremolinos
We take an excursion this morning to Mijas, a
quaint, whitewashed Andalusian village perched high on a cliff
overlooking the Mediterranean. Mijas is a great place to do some
shopping or maybe ride a taxi burro. In the afternoon, we return to
Torremolinos and enjoy another afternoon on the beach. B/D

Wednesday, June 17 •
Sevilla
This morning we continue on to Sevilla, Spain’s
third largest city. En
route, we make a stop in Estepa where we enjoy a tour of an olive
grove and olive oil factory, where we learn how olives are grown and
made into oil. After our tour, we have some free time for lunch and to
explore this quaint town before continuing on to Sevilla. Here we
check into our hotel and have some time at leisure. This evening we
enjoy a special treat: a performance of the Andalusian Flamenco dance! B/D
Thursday, June 18 • Sevilla
We take a locally guided tour of Sevilla this
morning. Our tour
includes a stroll through María Luisa Park and a visit to the
nearby
Plaza de España and other pavilions built for the 1929 Spanish
American
Exhibition. After our tour we have time for lunch and then we visit
Sevillaís famous Catedral, the third largest in the world. This
immense
Gothic cathedral took over a century to build, and its bell tower, La
Giralda, was originally part of a mosque built by the Almohads. Inside
the Catedral we see the tomb of Columbus. We also have a chance
to
climb up La Giralda tower to get a spectacular view of the city. After
the tour, we enjoy the remainder of the afternoon free for shopping and
sightseeing on our own. Some possible activities include a stroll
through María Luisa Park or a boat ride on the Guadalquivir
River. B/D
Friday, June 19 • Toledo
We depart Sevilla and take a short drive north to
Córdoba. Here we take
a tour of La Mezquita, the great mosque that was originally built in
the 785. The mosque is unique because in the 16th century, a
cathedral
was built in center of it. After our tour, we take a walk through
the
Jewish quarter and admire the towering walls, cobblestone streets and
the wrought ironwork found on many of the buildings. We enjoy time to
explore the city before continuing on to Toledo for our overnight.

Saturday, June 20 • Madrid
This morning we meet a local guide who shows us the
rich history of
Toledo. Our sightseeing includes tours of La Catedral with its
mixture
of different styles of architecture including French Gothic,
Renaissance and Mudéjar. We also visit La Sinagoga del
Tránsito and La
Iglesia de Santo Tomé, which houses the Burial of the Count of
Orgaz,
one of El Grecoís masterpieces. After our tour we have time for
lunch
and some more sightseeing on our own before we continue on to Madrid.
We have some time to explore Madrid before dinner. B/D

Sunday, June 21 •
Madrid
Our first stop on our full-day excursion today is
Segovia. Here we
visit the Alcázar. Built atop a rocky hill, this fortress was
rebuilt
in 1862 after a fire. We also see the cityís Gothic
cathedral and its
ancient aqueduct that was built in the first century and used well into
the 19th century. We have some time for lunch in Segovia before
continuing on to Santa Cruz del Valle de los Caídos,
Francoís
stupendous monument to those who fell in the Spanish Revolution. We
return to Madrid in time for dinner at our hotel. B/D
Monday, June 22 • Madrid
We get acquainted with Madrid this morning on a
locally guided bike
tour. We visit sights such as Spain’s Plaza Mayor in the heart of the
city, and the Plaza de Cibeles where the very distinctive Banco
de
España and Madrid’s main post office are located. We also see
the Plaza
de España with its statues of Miguel de Cervantes, Don Quixote
and
Sancho Panza. Finally, we tour the spectacular Palacio
Real. This
lavish palace took 26 years to build and has over 1,200 rooms. We enjoy
the afternoon for some shopping and sightseeing on our own. B/D
Tuesday, June 23 • Madrid
This morning we visit the Museo del Prado, Spain’s
most famous art
museum where we have a chance to see paintings done by Spanish artists,
including Velázquez, Goya and El Greco. Afterwards we take a
stroll in
nearby Retiro Park. The remainder of the day is free for last minute
shopping and sightseeing. B/D
Wednesday, June 24 • Return
Sadly, we transfer to Madridís Barajas
Airport for our return flight to
the United States. We return with memories of beautiful landscapes,
cathedrals and palaces. ¡Bienvenidos a casa!
